About RatePal

Who we are

RatePal is an independent financial comparison platform built in New Zealand. We help Kiwis make more informed decisions about mortgages, personal loans, term deposits, credit cards and KiwiSaver funds by bringing rates from all major NZ banks and providers into one place.

We are not a financial adviser, bank or lender. We do not sell financial products, accept commissions or receive referral fees. RatePal exists to provide free, unbiased information so you can compare options and make the choice that suits your circumstances.

Our mission

New Zealand’s financial product market can be hard to navigate. Rates change frequently, fee structures vary between providers, and comparing products across banks often means visiting dozens of different websites.

RatePal’s mission is to bring transparency to this process. We believe every New Zealander deserves quick, easy access to accurate rate information — whether you’re buying your first home, choosing a KiwiSaver fund, or looking for a better deal on a personal loan.

Our data and methodology

We source rate data directly from the publicly available rate sheets and product pages of New Zealand’s licensed banks and financial institutions, including ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Westpac, Kiwibank, TSB, SBS Bank, The Co-operative Bank, Heartland Bank and others.

Our data process follows these principles:

• Regular updates — rates are refreshed regularly and after every OCR announcement by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
• Primary sources only — we use official provider rate sheets, not third-party aggregators.
• Transparency — every comparison page shows when data was last updated and links to the provider’s own website for verification.
• No hidden rankings — products are sorted by rate or fee, not by commercial arrangement. We do not accept payment for placement.

KiwiSaver fund data (fees, returns, fund types, ESG ratings) is sourced from provider Product Disclosure Statements (PDS), fund updates and publicly available performance data.

Editorial independence

All guides, articles and comparison content on RatePal are written and reviewed by our editorial team. We follow a strict editorial policy:

• Content is researched using official data sources and verified before publication.
• Guides are reviewed and updated regularly to reflect current rates and regulations.
• We clearly distinguish factual information from general guidance and always recommend seeking professional financial advice for personal decisions.
